A week or two ago, Nightlight Christian Adoption Agency organized The Hope Gala here in town to raise funds for and support adoption. For the severalth-year-in-a-row, we hosted a table, and this year we were able to fill our table! This hasn’t been true every year…. and this year it was a last minute endeavor to find a couple for the last 2 seats.
There are so many struggles in the world of adoption. Yes, bad things happen. There is corruption in places. But adoption is beautiful, and its worth taking the time to find the organization and people that honor adoption for the wonderful and beautiful thing that it is. It is in adoption that beauty is brought from awkward and ugly situations. And it is in love that parents (or relatives or whoever) make an adoption plan for the child they love but cannot raise, and it is in love that an adopting family opens their arms to accept this child they can provide for.
This is an agency that honors and upholds the beauty of adoption. They work to bring children into the forever family that can love and raise them. And that night at the Hope Gala, we celebrated all that Nightlight has done, heard stories of the beauty that comes out of hard situations, and raised funds to support adoption work.
We went through Nightlight’s Snowflake program to adopt 5 babies. Though all were transferred, only 1 lived to be born. We are sad that the other 4 were not given to us to hold and raise, but we love them still. And the 1 given to us to hold and raise is stretching us in all the ways of parenting.
There are needs, yes, for money, but mostly for adoptive families.
Have you considered how you might support adoption? Even if you are not in a place to adopt a child, you can support others who are fostering and adopting. Become a respite caregiver, help a family who is fostering or recently adopted. Give money to an agency, follow CareNet of Waco and support them. Because its all supporting those who need our help, not merely getting what we want.
