Does this hit your family? As Little Man has gotten older, it seems that he is dealing with it better. But this hits all of us.

Here’s a PSA for anyone still trying to come up with a Christmas routine with their kiddos that keeps Christmas from being too crazy: Go old-school and celebrate the Christmas Octave (8 days) or, even better, the Twelve Days until Epiphany (Jan. 6, when the arrival of the Wise Men is celebrated). Then spread the gift-giving and treat-eating throughout. This way the kids don’t get overloaded with good things all at once, and can really appreciate one thing thoroughly each day.

I certainly love this idea, but after having the tree up for just over a week I’m ready to have “normality” back. Not sure I could handle 8 days of “woo-hoo! new exciting thing! want to open gift!” which is what I imagine doing gifts over 8 or 12 days would be like.

Normal?
It wasn’t too crazy of a holiday. We enjoyed the opening of gifts, eating good food, and enjoying grandparent time. And yet, I am glad its done. Sure I know the reason for the season, and we work to make sure the boys know that this holiday isn’t about the gifts and the trappings, but as a way to celebrate the birth of our Lord and Savior. Nonetheless, we all appreciate a regular schedule and find ourselves ready to get back to it within a few days of celebration.
