An Annual Ritual
It’s that time of year again – it seems like every year in January, the USPS raises rates. This year is not an exception, and on Sunday we adjusted to accurately reflect shipping costs. But this year, the costs did not merely go up, rather the method for calculating costs changed. It’s a bit of a headache to be sure, but it comes with a happy benefit! By the way, if you’re interested, you can learn all about the new rates here.
Which Box Will We Ship Your Order In?

If your order ships in the box on the left, it will cost US$12.80 to ship – anywhere in the US. But the box on the right is a USPS Regional B Box. If your order ships in that box, the cost depends both on fitting in the box and on how far the package much travel. For someone living near us, that Regional Box will cost only US$8.05 to ship, while for someone living far away, it could cost nearly $30!
Until recently, the marketplaces didn’t support calculating the cost of shipping a Regional Box to you. But in coping with the new pricing structure for small packages, we can now calculate Regional Box costs automatically on BrickOwl. This allows you to select the best shipping option and may in fact saving on shipping costs at checkout.
We’re also glad for the change. We have always joyfully refunded excess shipping costs to our customers when the Regional Boxes allowed us to lower the cost. But now we don’t have to generate as many refunds, which makes bookkeeping just a little easier on our end.
So what can we pack in your Regional Box?
