LEGO® sets occupy shelves in most major retailers in this country, but not all sets come to those shelves. Some sets only sell through certain chains. Some very large sets sell through the LEGO® website only. Still other sets are promotional items made available for a limited time as a free gift with purchase. I’ll talk about that last class of sets today.
Promotional Sets: How to earn them.
I buy a lot of LEGO® building sets. Occasionally I buy through the LEGO.com site – not large quantities of anything (they have low limits) but enough different things to rack up fair bill. But I have the luxury of buying when I want to, rather than when I have to. So I wait for fun offers. On Valentine’s day, they offered a free set with a purchase of $20 or more and I took them up on that offer. Eight times. Turns out, they do not limit the number of orders you can place that will qualify for the free add on. By splitting your order into several orders of the right size, you can receive multiple promotional sets.

These sets don’t stick around for long, so they can quickly become hard to find. (I listed the Valentine’s Day flowers for sale here – as of this writing, no one has them for less.) They can make great gifts and we have them on the secondary market long after the promotions are gone.
