One of the things I’ve really enjoyed doing on BrickLink is building some classic LEGO sets that you just can’t get any longer, especially Space themed sets from the early 80’s. Here I’ll walk through the process of creating a BrickLink wishlist for all the pieces you need – it’s easier than you’d think.
The first step is to decide what set you’re rebuilding. I’m interested in one I had as a boy, but I can’t remember the proper name. It had “Uranium” in the name though, so I searched for that word alone.

This one is a bit easy – even if I had just done a general search, this would have come up at the top, because Uranium is a fairly uncommon word. But the catalog search will help narrow things a bit, screening out results of the wrong type.

The next step is to get BrickLink to generate a wishlist for you from the parts. It’s also possible from the search results to find sellers with the set in their inventory, but with sets this old, that can be very expensive. To gather all the parts to build the set though, click on the main entry, as shown above. Look for the wishlist section, and select the “Part Out” option.

Give the wishlist a name, and then click submit.

You’ll be taken to a page with a complete list of all the parts – you can simply scroll to the bottom of the list and click “add to wanted list”. It’s possible that you might want to edit a few things on this page, but you can get by without it. (ProTip: this set contains an “old style” brick that will be hard to find – you can replace this old mold brick with a new 2×2 brick and make it easier to find and probably cheaper too.) At this point, you’ve got a wishlist for your parts. We’ve talked before about ordering the parts from a wishlist (here). What classic sets are you interested in rebuilding – let us know in the comments!
