Previously, I shared what one theoretically does with the 108K LEGO® elements once they are sorted by color. This time, I can share what actually is happening!
We normally have 20 or so copies of a set that we part out. But with these creative towers, we have 100. Thus, approaching this set with some strategy. First we had to get it home, then we sorted each box by color. Once we had those big bags with each color, we could actually start parting out. Still, its a lot of pieces!
Step 1: Parting Out
Each piece is put in a different cup, sorted by style and color. And its a lot of cups. We have found the cups make for easy sorting, better than merely making piles and the cups stack nicely when not in use. To top it off, they are cheap and if they break, getting new ones is easy-peasy.

Step 2: Putting Away
After the parts have been listed for sale, they get put away. I’ve shared about our storage system before; everything is stored first by type of piece, then by color. One color of one type is all in one bag, then all the bags of one part are in one drawer or bin. We now have A LOT of green, and variations LEGO® Elements.

Next Step: Still Waiting
The white/grey, black, purple, blue, red, orange and brown bags are still in line waiting to be parted out. What color should we do next? Chime in!
