Honestly, this year’s Black Friday haul continues to sit, sorted into colors, waiting their turn to get parted out. But since we did this last year, I can talk about what happens next.
Parting Out

“Parting out” just means that the collection is sorted by color and type. All the light blue grey 1×1 plates go in 1 cup, while all the black 2×2 bricks go into a 2nd cup.
The bags from these boxes have nearly 30 different pieces in them. If you opened just one box, you would find a few of each piece in the bag. Some pieces there is only 1, for some pieces you get 4 or 5 or more. In these boxes, its a lot of bricks. And when you have the bag from 100 boxes, it makes for a lot of each piece. Many of the small pieces will only fill, or partially fill, 1 cup. But the larger pieces, 2x_ bricks, will take multiple cups to hold all of them.
Plastic drinking cups?
We’ve found that these simple plastic drinking cups are most handing in this sorting. They stack for storage between uses. They are durable enough, as these have been going strong for several years. However, these are not great for storage…. they tip too easily! And they don’t stack well if full.
Speaking of Storage….
I’m an organizing junky. I love to think about how to store things well. Especially things like LEGO®. You want to be able to find the piece you want quickly, so it all needs to be in reach. But there are so many pieces… can you really have that many compartments? And it needs to be able to be put away. When we work, we end up with a pile in the middle… is this really the best way? I’m thinking about this, and if you’ve got ideas, please share them!
